Step out of the cottage and head down the hill to reach Combesgate Beach and Barricane Bay. Combesgate is a little sandy bay that is surrounded by beautiful rocky outcrops, and is a great spot for rock pooling.

Barricane is a secluded beach and gets its name from the range of shells found on its sands traveling thousands of miles in the gulf-stream across the Atlantic.

It becomes a small sandy cove at high tide, is perfect for a swim or paddle board at sunset, and in mid to high season don't miss the Beach Hut's authentic Sri Lankan curry (BYO liquid accompaniment!)

Strolling on down the Esplanade, you'll reach the award winning 3 mile stretch of gold sand that is Woolacombe Beach, just in front of the town itself. Surf the waves, take a swim, slide down the iconic sand dunes or just kick back and relax.

The RNLI lifeguard services keep you safe here throughout the season. If you stroll to the far end you'll reach Putsborough Sands and heading onwards from the Cafe, you'll can walk to Baggy Point towards Croyde Bay.

Heading out of the cottage through the village, follow the path to reach the infamous Morte Point and look out for seals at low tide.

You can continue across the path to Lee Bay and stop to refuel at the village pub before your return.

Rockham Bay is also a short walk from the village - accessible only at low tide, a cove of peace and tranquility.

We welcome all members of the family, and dogs are allowed on many of the beaches on the North Devon Coast, with some restrictions during high season. You can find out more here.

The coast is magical and there is so much to explore - this is just a little taster. We have trail maps available in the cottage and can recommend local partners who offer surf lessons, paddle board or Kayak hire, coasteering trips, horse trekking, quad biking... and more! There's a lot to offer and we always embrace special requests (including our first guest proposal of marriage last year!)
